It should be noted that, in accordance with the Legislation, prior to the authorization of any petroleum related activities on the Parcels the operator must demonstrate to the satisfaction of the Board that such activities can be conducted in a safe and environmentally responsible manner. Special precautions, such as enhanced environmental assessments, more stringent mitigation measures and environmental effects monitoring may be required in some cases. This may include the placement of certain limitations on petroleum related activities near the shore. Amendments were made to the Accords Acts in 2013 to include specific protections for Sable Island National Park Reserve with respect to oil and gas activities.
